We are hoping for a white winter here in the northeast and the chance to get out and about, on forest trails, golf courses, cycle paths, wherever the snow is good. Keep checking the website and use the telephone/email contacts for snow in the hills and elsewhere.
Planned trips for the 2014/15 winter season include the following:
The club weekend in Scotland is 7 - 9th Feb. We are staying at the girl guide sheiling in Braemar. Lots of opportunity for walking and skiing (snow permitting) - valley skiing, hill touring, or on the piste at Glenshee. Please let me know if you want to join us. A deposit of £12 will be needed to secure your place.
Trip to the alps in January - telemarking or alpine skiing. We have a slight change of plan. We are now heading for the Grand Massif area (Flaine) with accommodation in Morillon. Approx dates (tbc) 16th to 21st Jan. That will give us 3 or 4 days of skiing.
Cross country skiing in Finnish Lapland 2nd to 9th March... 10 of us have already booked and will be staying in the cabins at Akaslompolo. Fantastic track skiing, probably the best in Europe. And good value too - only £477 sharing a cabin for 6 people. Get in touch if you need to know more.
Roller skiing, social events, and trips to the climbing wall in Byker complete the line-up for the coming months.
As always, all are welcome to join in the fun. Check out our Facebook group 'Tyneside Loipers' to find out who is going skiing (summer or winter) locally. If you want to join us but don't have the necessary kit, we might be able to help. A list of club kit is in this word document.
